District invests 6.9 million euros in renovation of Ense Halle

The sports hall at Ense Schule Bad Wildungen has been extensively renovated over the past year and a half at a cost of 6.9 million euros. As of next week, it will be open for sports activities again - both for school sports and for Bundesliga sports: the first home game of the HSG Bad Wildungen Vipers will take place there on 6 May.

Both the interior and the exterior of the 30-year-old hall were completely renovated. The entire interior of the hall was renovated - including the sports floor, impact protection, control room, equipment room gates and mobile bleachers. The permanently installed sports equipment was overhauled or replaced. A bouldering wall was installed for school sports.

The existing changing room and shower area was also dismantled - except for the statically supporting structure - and the premises were adapted to current needs and rebuilt. Furthermore, the control room was also rebuilt to meet the requirements of Bundesliga sports. Reporters' seats and places for observing matches as well as areas for setting up camera equipment were also set up around the dressing room. The building services - i.e. the sanitary, heating and electrical systems as well as the building automation - were also renewed: the interior rooms such as washrooms and changing rooms have been equipped with mechanical ventilation and extraction systems with heat recovery. The drinking water system was renewed and the electronic systems were rebuilt.

On the building envelope, the façade elements were replaced and new windows and doors were installed, and the roof skylight of the hall including sun protection and the roof surfaces of the changing areas were renewed. In the outdoor area, a new ramp system allows barrier-free access to the hall. The complete renovation was carried out according to fire protection aspects, so that additional escape routes were created and new safety systems were installed in the course of the renovation.

"After a year and a half of construction, we are pleased to open the Ense Hall for sports activities again," says District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst on the occasion of the opening of the sports hall. "With the renovation of the hall, we are not only creating significantly better conditions for the pupils and professional sports, but are also sending a clear message of commitment to the school location in Bad Wildungen."
