Waldeck-Frankenberg District and Hospital ensure emergency medical care
From 2027, the Waldeck-Frankenberg Hospital (KWF), with its two sites in Korbach and Frankenberg, will take over the provision of emergency medical care in the Waldeck-Frankenberg ambulance service area. The district authority recently concluded an agreement with the KWF to this effect. Together, the district authority and the hospital are thus ensuring comprehensive, high-quality and always accessible emergency medical care in the long term.
Until now, the former Korbach Municipal Hospital had provided the emergency doctors for the Korbach catchment area. In Frankenberg, medical care was in the hands of a female emergency doctor who was responsible for ensuring and organising the service there. Following the merger of Korbach Municipal Hospital and Frankenberg District Hospital to form the KWF, the provision of emergency medical care is now being reorganised.
Round-the-clock emergency medical care
From next year, this will be provided 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by Waldeck-Frankenberg Hospital. This has been agreed by District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst and First Deputy District Administrator Karl-Friedrich Frese with the management of the KWF. The contract is based on the Hessian Emergency Medical Services Act, the State of Hesse’s Emergency Medical Services Plan and the regional plan for the Waldeck-Frankenberg district’s emergency medical services area.
Medical assistance at any time
Among other things, the contract governs the deployment of qualified emergency medical staff in accordance with the provisions of the Emergency Services Act and the State Medical Association, close cooperation with the district control centre in the management and coordination of operations, as well as regularand further training, as well as quality assurance measures. This ensures that, in future too, people in Waldeck-Frankenberg who suddenly fall seriously ill or have an accident will receive medical assistance quickly and at any time – whether on weekdays, public holidays or at weekends, whether during the day or in the middle of the night.
KWF as a strong partner
“Our agreement clearly stipulates that services will be permanently organised at KWF’s sites in Frankenberg and Korbach, and that qualified doctors will be on hand to respond to emergencies and provide medical care to those affected,” says District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst. “We continue to ensure reliability in medical emergencies: anyone who dials the emergency number 112 can be confident that a qualified response team will arrive quickly, round the clock.” First Deputy District Administrator Karl-Friedrich Frese emphasises that the Waldeck-Frankenberg Hospital is therefore a strong partner: “Together with the KWF and its sites in the northern and southern parts of the district, we are thus ensuring reliable, local emergency care for our citizens in the long term.”
Qualified emergency doctors
This is also emphasised by the KWF’s management: “Waldeck-Frankenberg Hospital has a pool of specialists who hold additional qualifications in emergency medicine and have gained practical experience in emergency scenarios,” emphasise the directors Anne Bülling and Sassan Pur. “Further doctors from our hospitals are currently undergoing training for this.” The presence of emergency doctors at the KWF also strengthens the hospital’s position as an attractive training centre and helps retain dedicated doctors at both sites.
Background
The Frankenberg District Hospital and the Municipal Hospital have merged, with effect from 1 January 2026 and under the sponsorship of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district, to form the joint Waldeck-Frankenberg Hospital, with sites in Frankenberg and Korbach. As a single hospital with two sites, it ensures reliable and the best possible healthcare for people in the region.
