    In order to be able to enjoy retirement life from the very beginning, i.e. when you become entitled to a pension, it is important to apply for a pension in good time, because benefits from the statutory pension insurance are generally only granted upon application.

Who do I need to contact?

Your application for benefits from the statutory pension insurance is best submitted to

  • the pension insurance institutions (information and advice centres),
  • their policyholder advisors or elders or
  • the insurance offices and municipal administrations.

They also provide the necessary application forms and offer assistance in filling out the forms and compiling the required documents.

However, applications can also be submitted to all other social security institutions (e.g. health insurance fund, employment agency) and, abroad, to the official representations of the Federal Republic of Germany. All these organisations are obliged to forward your application to the relevant pension insurance institution without delay.
