Motor vehicles: Inspection and sealing stickers

  • Performance specification

When changing the registration district of a registered vehicle, the official seal stickers on the previous number plate are removed by the registration authority of the new registration district. This is done in the course of the new registration. It is not permissible to register the vehicle in the new registration district without removing the previous registration plates.

The registration office must also cancel the official licence plates when the vehicle is taken out of service, when the registration number is changed or when the type of licence plate is changed by removing the official seal stickers.

    Hint:

    • When registering a vehicle that is still registered abroad, the foreign registration plates must be presented.
    • In the event of theft or loss of a licence plate, any licence plate still in existence must be presented.
    • If a test or seal sticker becomes unusable or is lost (e.g. in the car wash), you should replace it immediately or have a new sticker affixed to avoid unnecessary hassle.

    Attention:

A vehicle with stamped licence plates may only be put into operation on public traffic areas in exceptional cases in connection with the registration.

  • Which documents are required?

When renewing the inspection and/or seal stickers on the licence plate, you will need:

    • Registration certificate Part I (vehicle registration document)
    • for a vehicle taken out of service before 1 October 2005:
      the deregistration certificate
    • the licence plate on which the sticker is damaged or from which the sticker has come off
    • if the HU inspection sticker has been lost or has become unusable:
Report of the last main inspection (HU), unless the relevant data can be found on the registration certificate part I or the deregistration certificate
