Motor vehicle: Holder request
Performance specification
If you want to assert, secure or enforce or to satisfy or defend legal claims in connection with participation in road traffic (e.g. claims for damages against the other party involved in the accident and their motor vehicle liability insurance) or to bring a private action for offences committed in road traffic, but only know the registration number of the vehicle involved in the accident, there is the possibility of determining the owner and thus their insurance company by means of an owner enquiry (so-called simple register information).
Which documents are required?
The information must be requested in writing, stating the vehicle data or the personal data of the owner. It must be shown that the information is required to assert, secure or enforce or to satisfy or defend legal claims in connection with participation in road traffic (e.g. claims for damages against the other party involved in the accident and their motor vehicle liability insurance) or to bring a private action for offences committed in road traffic.
What are the fees?
The information fee amounts to 5.10 euros and can be claimed from the opposing liability insurance company as an accident damage item.
Legal basis
Who do I need to contact?
Contact the vehicle registration office in whose area the other party's vehicle is registered. The enquiry must be made in writing.
In order to prevent misuse of the information, strict formalities apply to such an enquiry.
