Compulsory wearing of seat belts and helmets - exemption
Performance specification
For the protection of road users, the legislator has prescribed that seat belts must be worn while driving and that protective helmets must be worn when driving motorbikes.
However, it is possible to be exempted from this obligation upon application. The considerable safety risk this entails shall be borne by the applicant.
You can be exempted from the obligation to wear a seat belt,
- if it is not possible to wear seat belts for health reasons.
- if the body height is less than 150 cm.
- You can be exempted from the obligation to wear a helmet,
- if it is not possible to wear a safety helmet for health reasons.

- If the conditions for exemption are of a health nature, a medical certificate must be submitted stating that the exemption to be applied for is absolutely necessary for medical reasons. The certificate does not need to contain a diagnosis.
For the body height below 150 cm, a medical certificate with the measured body height must also be brought along.

The amount of the fee depends on numerous different factors.

The exemption is revocable and is usually granted for a limited period of one year, unless the medical certificate states that the health condition will no longer improve; the exemption is then granted for an unlimited period.
