  • Performance specification

    You can extend your class B driving licence under certain conditions. Key number B96 allows you to drive class B motor vehicles with a trailer with a maximum authorised mass of more than 750 kg, provided that the maximum authorised mass exceeds 3,500 kg but does not exceed 4,250 kg. Key number B196 allows you to drive motorbikes (also with sidecars) with a maximum engine capacity of 125 cm³, an engine power of no more than 11 kW, where the ratio of power to weight does not exceed 0.1 kW/kg. To do this, you must complete the corresponding driver training course in accordance with Appendix 7a (code number B96) or 7b (code number B196) of the Driving Licence Ordinance (FeV).

  • Requirements

    For the extension by the key figure 96:

    • You must be at least 18 years old, or 17 years old in the case of accompanied driving.
    • You must have completed at least seven hours of driver training and be able to provide evidence of this (at least 2.5 hours of theoretical training, at least 3.5 hours of practical training).
    • You must be in possession of a driving licence class B or fulfil the requirements for its issue


    For the extension by key figure 196:

    • You must be at least 25 years old
    • You must have held class B for at least five years
    • You must complete and be able to demonstrate nine 90-minute teaching units (four teaching units theory and five teaching units practical)
    • The period between the completion of the driver training and the registration of the code number 196 must not exceed one year
  • Which documents are required?

    • Identity card/passport, if necessary with certificate of registration
    • a current biometric photo in accordance with the PassV (size 45x35mm, portrait format, frontal photograph); information and examples can be found in Bundesdruckerei's photo sample board.
    • Certificate of attendance driver training according to Annex 7 a (code number 96) or according to Annex 7b FeV (code number 196)
    • valid driving licence
    • If applicable, a copy of the index card from the last issuing authority (if different).
  • What are the fees?

    The administrative fee is charged in accordance with the Fee Regulations for Road Traffic Measures (GebOSt).
