Extending your passenger transport licence

  • Performance specification

    A driving licence for passenger transport (FzF) is valid for a period of no more than 5 years. After that, you can have the licence extended for up to 5 years under certain conditions.

    This applies to every FzF for commercial journeys with a

    • Taxi
    • Rental car
    • Cars in scheduled or on-demand transport
    • Ambulance

    A non-renewed driving licence expires when the time limit expires. You must then apply for a new passenger transport licence.

  • Requirements

    • Mental and physical fitness
    • Good eyesight
    • You are at least 21 years old
    • no criminal offence
    • after the age of 60: proven resilience, orientation, concentration, attention and responsiveness
  • Which documents are required?

    • European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) driving licence required to drive the vehicle in question
    • If you have not held an EU or EEA category B driving licence (passenger car) or a corresponding driving licence from another country (listed in Annex 11 FeV) for at least 2 years, proof that you have held such a licence for a total of 2 years within the last 5 years.
    • Certificate of good conduct
    • Current information from the driving suitability register
    • Certificate of medical examination for physical and mental aptitude
    • Eye test certificate

    The administrative fee is charged in accordance with the Fee Regulations for Road Traffic Measures (GebOSt).
