Vehicle registration plate: Small number plate

Please note in particular our information under:

Performance specification
When registering a vehicle, it is not uncommon to request a smaller number plate (so-called "US number plate" or light motorcycle number plate).
Which documents are required?
- All documents required for the registration of a vehicle. See vehicle registration: new vehicles
In the event that the granting of an exemption is applied for, the confirmation of an officially recognised expert is necessary that the attachment of normal-sized number plates is either technically not possible due to the structural condition or that a disproportionate effort would be required for the conversion to attach a proper number plate. According to case law, conversion costs of up to 10 per cent of the current value of the vehicle are reasonable.

Special information for the Waldeck-Frankenberg district

The granting of an exemption is subject to a fee.
