Landfills
Performance specification
Landfills are waste disposal facilities in which waste is deposited for an unlimited period of time. In principle, waste may only be deposited in landfills if the allocation criteria specified for the respective landfill class are met. For household waste, household waste similar to commercial waste and other waste with a high organic content, this means that as a rule it must be treated either thermally or mechanically-biologically before being deposited.
Process flow
To ensure uniform enforcement of official activities in connection with landfills throughout Hesse, work aids, procedure books and procedural aids on these topics have been developed under the auspices of the Hessian Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (HMUKLV). These are available on the Ministry's website.

The legal requirements for landfills, which were spread over several ordinances and administrative regulations in 2009, were merged or repealed with the Ordinance on the Simplification of Landfill Law and the General Administrative Regulation on the Repeal of Administrative Regulations on Landfill Law of 29 April 2009.
