  • Performance specification

    A person who wishes to care for a child or children outside the household of the legal guardian for part of the day and for more than 15 hours a week for more than three months in return for payment requires permission.

    Permission shall be granted if the person is suitable for child day care.

    Suitable persons are,

    • who distinguish themselves through their personality, professional competence and willingness to cooperate with legal guardians and other day care workers, and
    • that have child-friendly premises.

    They should have in-depth knowledge regarding the requirements of child day care, which they have acquired in qualified training courses or proven in another way.

    The permit authorises the care of up to five foreign children present at the same time. In individual cases, permission may be granted for a smaller number of children.

    The permit is limited to five years.

  • Process flow

    If you are interested in working in child day care, please always contact the Youth Welfare Office responsible for the application procedure and advice on permission for child day care in whose area you are or would like to be a child day care provider. There you will receive information on the application procedure, the aptitude test and the necessary qualification. The activity as a child day carer can only begin after the permit has been granted.

    Child day carers should have in-depth knowledge regarding the requirements of child day care, which they have acquired in qualified courses or have proven in another way.

    An extended certificate of good conduct is required for all those who supervise, care for, educate or have comparable contact with children in day care.

    All day care workers born after 1970 must prove protection against measles by having completed the measles vaccination or have measles immunity.

    The prerequisites are checked by the competent youth welfare office in each individual case on the basis of the applicable legal provisions and its own regulations.
