Request removal or cutting of certain trees, hedges, living fences, bushes within a certain period of time.

  • Performance specification

Trees produce vital oxygen, improve the climate, filter dust and pollutants and provide humidity and air movement. They provide a habitat for a wide variety of animals, enliven and structure the cityscape and dampen noise. To ensure that trees are preserved, they are particularly well protected - especially in heavily populated areas.

If you want to cut down a tree, permission may be required. You may have to pay compensation for the felled tree. A felling permit is particularly necessary if trees are subject to special protection.

In the period between 1 March and 30 September, the felling of trees and other woody plants is prohibited. It is also forbidden to put them on the stock. You may only cut trees and other woody plants for maintenance purposes. If you have to cut down a tree during this period because, for example, it impairs road safety, you need an exceptional permit for this.

  • Legal basis

    • Trees in inner areas can be protected as "protected landscape elements" within the meaning of § 29 BNatSchG according to § 12 para. 1 sentence 3 and para. 2 sentence 2 HAGBNatSchG by the municipalities in a corresponding statute.
    • Pursuant to Article 32 (3) HAGBNatSchG, tree protection statutes issued on the basis of Article 26 of the Hessian Nature Conservation Act in the version of 16 April 1996 (GVBl. I p. 145) or Article 30 of the Hessian Nature Conservation Act of 4 December 2006, as amended, continued to apply as statutes pursuant to Article 12 (1) sentence 3 and (2) sentence 2 HAGBNatSchG when the HAGBNatSchG came into force.
