Landscape conservation

  • Performance specification

The aim of landscape conservation is the preservation and development of the landscape with its diversity and characteristics, its habitats and its habitats for animal and plant species.

The area of responsibility includes, in particular, measures to safeguard, maintain, restore and create near-natural habitats and habitats of native animal and plant species. In Hesse, landscape conservation measures are preferably carried out in NATURA 2000 areas (protected areas in accordance with the Habitats Directive and the Birds Directive of the European Union).

The state promotes landscape conservation through appropriately designed programmes. The implementation of the various measures is preferably carried out by the respective landowners and land users, usually farmers and forest owners.
