Performance specification
Natural monuments are legally binding individual creations of nature designated by the district committee of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district, which are placed under special protection in particular because of their rarity, peculiarity or beauty. The district has designated individual creations and areal natural monuments by ordinance, most recently on 1 March 2013. The protection extends to the respective individual creation of nature including its surroundings (protected area). For individual trees, the protected area is generally the ground surface below the crown plus a distance of 1.5 metres on all sides. In the case of extensive natural monuments such as special grassland formations, tree and forest stands or areas designated for geological reasons, protection extends to the plots of land defined by ordinance.
These protected objects are marked by signage.
The lower nature conservation authority orders monitoring, protection, maintenance and design measures for the natural monuments with the involvement of the property owners and managers.
An exemption from the protection regulations by the competent nature conservation authority is only possible in special exceptional cases.
