The Hessische Landeszentrale für politische Bildung (HLZ) is an institution of the State of Hesse and reports directly to the Prime Minister of Hesse. It is the only Hessian institution that carries out political education work on behalf of the state. A board of trustees consisting of nine members of the state parliament guarantees the non-partisan stance.
The HLZ carries out political - not party-affiliated - educational work in the state of Hesse. In particular, it has the task of "promoting the development of free democratic consciousness through political education work. This is done through educational events and publications and by supporting public institutions and independent associations dedicated to political education, insofar as the state budgetary regulations permit."
