Verbringens - Permission

  • Performance specification

If you want to transfer firearms or ammunition across borders into the area of application of the Weapons Act, into other member states of the European Union or into Switzerland, you need a permit.

  • Requirements

    • The recipient is entitled to acquire or possess these weapons or ammunition.
    • Safe transport by a person authorised to acquire or possess these weapons or ammunition is guaranteed.

If firearms or ammunition are to be brought to Germany from another Member State of the European Union, the permit is issued as consent to the permit of the other Member State for the transfer in question.

If the place of destination is another Member State of the European Union, its consent is also required.

  • Which documents are required?

    • Information on the person of the transferor and the transferee
    • Details of the weapons
    • Delivery address

Whether further documents have to be brought along has to be clarified with the responsible office.

Please note that the firearms authority can only issue the corresponding transfer permit if the competent authority of the recipient state has given its prior consent, i.e. an import permit has been issued by the latter.

  • What are the fees?

Fees in the amount of 20.00 to 200.00 euros will be charged in accordance with the Administrative Cost Regulations for the Ministry of the Interior and Sport (VwKostO-MdIS).

  • What deadlines do I have to observe?

A special application deadline is not to be observed.

  • Legal basis

  • What else should I know?

This benefit does not apply to the personal carrying of weapons, for example as a sport shooter.

In certain cases, there are obligations to notify the Federal Office of Administration (see § 34 WaffG).

Before bringing weapons to another country, it is advisable to inform yourself in advance about the provisions of weapons law that apply there. The respective embassies/consulates are available for this purpose. Independently of the weapons regulations, the customs regulations must also be observed.

Who do I need to contact?
