Performance specification
Training support enables young people, regardless of their social and economic situation, to complete a school or university education that matches their abilities and interests.
You will receive education assistance for your living expenses and for your education (need). In case of need, the amount of the grant depends on your income and assets and - since the grant is generally family-dependent - usually on the income of your parents and your spouse or registered partner.

Note:
Since February 2023, the city of Kassel has been responsible for training grants .Further information is available here.Process flow
You can submit the application yourself - provided you have reached the age of 15 - to the competent office. It can also be submitted by your legal representatives.
You can also submit the application online throughout Hesse .
You will receive written notification of the decision. If the decision is positive, payments will be transferred monthly in advance to the account indicated.
Requirements
General requirements:
- German citizenship
- Foreign nationals depending on residence status
- Maximum 29 years old (at the start of the training)
- Your performance as an apprentice suggests that you will achieve the training objective
- Proof of a need for support for subsistence and training
Depending on the type of education grant, there may be further requirements.
What are the fees?
There are no fees.

The following forms are additionally required for the application:
- Declaration of consent
- Supplementary declaration on assets
- Rental cost certificate
- Employer certificate
The required forms are available from the offices for educational grants and can also be printed out from the websites of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Hessian Ministry of Science and the Arts.

Training assistance under the Federal Training Assistance Act (Bundesausbildungförderungsgesetz, BAföG) enables young people to complete a school or university education that matches their abilities and interests, regardless of their social and economic situation.
Who do I need to contact?
- The offices for educational support of the districts or independent cities are responsible for student support. For the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg, responsibility lies with the city of Kassel. Further information can be found here.
- The Student Services of the universities at which the student has enrolled or will enrol are responsible for student support .
- The Studierendenwerk Kassel, Campus Center, Moritzstr. 18, 34127 Kassel, is responsible for the Upgrading Grant (Aufstiegs-BAföG) for our district.
