Groundworks for the primary school in Goddelsheim have begun
The planning phase is complete, and now the diggers are in action: in Goddelsheim, groundworks have officially begun on the new two-form-group primary school. The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is investing around 8.2 million euros in this modern and sustainable educational project, which is due to be completed by 2028.
Following the submission of the planning application in the first quarter of the year, this major project is now set to enter the construction phase in summer 2026, as scheduled. The new building on Sachsenberger Straße, in the immediate vicinity of the Mittelpunktschule, will replace the old school building on Korbacher Straße in the town centre, which was no longer fit for purpose due to limited space and strict fire safety regulations.
Ideal conditions for 155 pupils
“With the start of construction, we are opening yet another new chapter for the educational landscape in our region,” emphasises District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst. “Thanks to its proximity to the Mittelpunktschule, the previous journeys for lunch and after-school care will no longer be necessary. Furthermore, both schools will be linked in terms of technology and energy: the new primary school will be connected to the MPS’s district heating supply and will in future use a shared security and telecommunications system.”
’s nature-based education conceptThe new building is designed to accommodate around 155 children: they will have access to eight modern classrooms, learning nooks, flexible communal areas and specially designed spaces for differentiated learning. The educational concept of the ‘Nature Park School’ is also reflected in the outdoor area, which will feature, amongst other things, an outdoor classroom, wildflower strips and an insect hotel. “It’s lovely to see that the groundworks are now under way. I’m delighted for the families, the teachers and, above all, the children that this new building will create a vibrant, modern place of learning right here in our local area,” says Henning Scheele, Mayor of Lichtenfels.
Focus on sustainability: Efficiency House 40
The building will also meet the highest environmental standards: the new school will be constructed as a two-storey timber-frame building to the extremely energy-efficient ‘Efficiency House 40’ standard. Key sustainable features include a façade made of basalt powder panels, a green roof for rainwater retention, and a photovoltaic system with integrated battery storage in the basement. If construction continues to go according to schedule, the primary school pupils will be able to move into their new school in 2028.
