Collect kilometres until 24 June: District Administrator & Mayor at the Cycleathlon
The final sprint of the STADTRADELN campaign is underway: until 24 June, all residents are encouraged to clock up kilometres for climate protection, their own health and the community. Numerous events during this final week of the campaign demonstrate that cycling is, above all, great fun. Alongside guided tours organised by the Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club (ADFC), a major sporting event – the Radathlon in Massenhausen – will take place this coming weekend. Leading by example are District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst, the Mayor of Arolsen, Marko Lambion, and the Mayor of Volkmarsen, Hendrik Vahle, who will be competing there as a joint team.
CITY CYCLING: Every kilometre counts
Since 2022, the district, together with the towns and municipalities within its boundaries, has been taking part in the Climate Alliance’s international ‘CITY CYCLING’ campaign. The aim is to cover as many journeys as possible by bike – a climate-friendly mode of transport – during the campaign period. Anyone who lives, works, belongs to a club or attends a school in Waldeck-Frankenberg can take part. Following the official launch on 4 June in Frankenberg, cycling enthusiasts can keep pedalling hard until 24 June to add to their kilometre tally.
ADFC guided tours
For anyone who enjoys cycling in a group, the ADFC is offering further guided tours during the campaign period. On 18 June, a ride around Lake Eder sets off at 9 am from Frankenberg railway station. On 20 June, the ride departs at 9 am from the Frankenberg sports ground, heading for Marburg. A ride to the Hoher Lohr begins on 22 June at 5 pm at the Wehrweide in Frankenberg, from where the tour to the district administration building in Korbach will also set off on 23 June at 10 am.
Highlight: The Radathlon in Massenhausen
A special sporting event is taking place on 20 and 21 June: the third Radathlon in Massenhausen. A team comprising the District Administrator and the mayors will also be competing in this unique event, which combines mountain biking and shooting. The event, suitable for the whole family, offers exciting competitions alongside food and drink. District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst and the mayors Marko Lambion and Hendrik Vahle say: “We’re not only pulling together politically, but now also in sport. We want to show just how much fun exercise is, and hope that many will follow our example and clock up plenty of kilometres. We’re also looking forward to seeing lots of spectators cheering us on.”
