District organises Hess. Fire brigade performance exercises

This year, 29 teams from Waldeck-Frankenberg will take part in the Hessian fire service performance exercises at district level, which the district is organising on 31 May at the Hauer car park in Korbach. Anyone interested is cordially invited to watch the spectacle, which starts at 8 am.

Extinguishing fires, securing hazardous materials, rescuing people
The fire service performance exercises are divided into theory and practice. The following situation is assumed in the practical part: An accident involving a forklift truck has occurred in the outdoor storage area of an industrial company while loading hazardous substances. Several containers of a hazardous substance have fallen from a shelf and partially leaked. One person is lying on the floor in the area of the damaged shelf. The forklift truck involved in the accident and the containers of a hazardous substance have caught fire, as evidenced by an open fire and a clear development of smoke. In addition to gathering information about the hazardous substance and cordoning off the danger zone, the exercise also focuses on firefighting to rescue people and rescuing the contaminated person.

In the written part, which takes place in the neighbouring Korbach town hall, participants must also answer technical questions. Participation also makes it possible to acquire the Hessian firefighting performance badge in iron, bronze, silver, gold and gold with an additional award for successful participation 5, 10 and 15 times, whereby an additional questionnaire must be answered for bronze, silver and gold.

Honours and cash prizes for the best
The practical exercises will last from 9:15 am to around 2 pm. The theory will take place at 8 am. The best teams will then be honoured in the Hauer car park by the district fire inspector together with the first district councillor of the district Karl-Friedrich Frese and the chairman of the district fire brigade association Gordon Kalhöfer. The participating teams can acquire the bronze, silver and gold performance levels upon successful participation. The level of achievement is awarded according to the performance achieved. In addition to the award certificates, they also receive cash prizes of 75, 100 and 125 euros for bronze, silver and gold from the state of Hesse. The winner of the fire service performance exercise at district level and the next two teams qualify for the district competition. This competition for the administrative district of Kassel will be held on 20 June 2026 in Niederaula (Hersfeld-Rotenburg district).

The district cordially invites all interested parties to take part in the fire service performance exercises as spectators - also to express the necessary thanks and recognition to the firefighters for their voluntary work. A large number of spectators also provides additional incentive for the competing teams and creates a worthy setting for the district competition.
