Online lectures on right-wing and left-wing extremism

The North Hessian specialist centres for the promotion of democracy and cross-phenomenon prevention of extremism (DEXT) are organising two online events in winter 2026: the focus will be on left-wing and right-wing extremism: The events are open to all interested members of the public from the districts of Kassel, Schwalm-Eder, Waldeck-Frankenberg and Werra-Meißner.

Right-wing extremism and the justice system
This will be the focus of the online talk ‘Know Your Rights! – Right-wing extremism and the justice system’ on 10 November from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm, organised by “Gesicht Zeigen! Für ein weltoffenes Deutschland e.V.”, which will cover basic legal knowledge regarding relevant criminal offences in the field of right-wing extremism. The focus will be on questions such as: When is right-wing extremist hate speech a criminal offence? Which symbols and insignia are prohibited? And what does it mean when the judiciary does (or does not) recognise a political motive? The event is open to anyone interested from the districts of North Hesse and will take place free of charge via the Webex platform. Registrations are open until 2 November

Left-wing extremism – Current trends and developments
On 3 December, from 6.30 pm to 8 pm, this online lecture will focus on current trends and developmentsin the field of left-wing extremism. Against the backdrop of the public debate that has followed the power cut in Berlin in January 2026, which lasted several days, the DEXT specialist centres in North Hesse are dedicating this event to the phenomenon of left-wing extremism.

The speaker is political scientist Nicholas Henkel from the North Hesse Police Headquarters. The session will explore what is meant by ‘left-wing extremism’ and which ideological positions, forms of action, radicalisation dynamics, thematic areas, as well as codes and symbols are currently at play. This free online event will take place via BigBlueButton; no special software is required. Full details of the events, including how to register, can be found here. Anyone interested is warmly invited to take part.
