Yaseen Omar from Frankenberg appointed Head of Emergency Medicine

The Head of Department responsible for the ambulance service in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district, First Deputy District Administrator Karl-Friedrich Frese, has appointed a new Senior Emergency Doctor (LNA) during a small ceremony at the district offices in Korbach. Yaseen Omar from Frankenberg will in future support the emergency services’ operational command, which is made up of the senior emergency doctors and the Organisational Management of the Emergency Services (OLRD). The appointment is linked to his appointment as an honorary official of the district.

In the event of major incidents, e.g. involving several injured or seriously ill people, the emergency services’ incident commander is alerted via the central emergency control centre. Their role is to coordinate and implement the necessary medical and organisational assistance measures at the scene. With the newly appointed Senior Emergency Doctor, Yaseen Omar, the district now has 10 Senior Emergency Doctors and 17 Emergency Service Operational Managers. They can be deployed across the entire district.

“Here in our district, we have a comprehensive network that enables the nearest LNA to reach the scene of an incident without any delay,” says Department Head Frese, highlighting the excellent facilities in Waldeck-Frankenberg. Whilst the on-call system ensures operational readiness at all times, practice has shown that, as a rule, members who live closer to the scene of an incident – even if they are not on duty – are also able to respond immediately. A comprehensive support network, which is particularly important in Hesse’s largest district in terms of area.

Dr Rudolf Alexi, Medical Director of the district’s ambulance service, also emphasised the great importance of a joint ambulance service operations centre with an adequate number of staff. “In the event of a major incident, this staff is essential to ensure the medical leadership and organisation of all medical personnel. It is therefore not about individual medical care, but about the management of resources.” Over the past 12 months, the emergency services command centre has been deployed in 10 major incidents in the district, such as road traffic accidents involving cars, lorries or buses with a large number of casualties, as well as fires in residential homes or warehouses where the number of people involved was unclear. The system comprising the LNA and OLRD for major incidents has proven its worth across the board.

Yaseen Omar is 39 years old and currently works in his home town of Frankenberg as Head of the Central A&E Department at the ‘Klinikum Waldeck-Frankenberg’ (Frankenberg site). He is a specialist in internal medicine and cardiology. He was awarded his qualification as a Senior Emergency Physician by the Hessian State Medical Association in 2025. Yaseen Omar will take over as head of the emergency department in Frankenberg from 1 January 2027.
