Chimney sweeping

By law, the state has transferred the inspection and compliance with certain regulations in fire and environmental protection to the chimney sweep trade as an independent authority. The master chimney sweeps belong to the trade as tradesmen. They bill their services independently.

However, they perform public, sovereign duties in the areas of fireplace inspections, building inspections, immission control and the rational use of energy. In doing so, they are subordinate to the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg as the competent administrative authority.

Arrears of fees and expenses that have not been paid by the operators of fireplaces despite reminders shall be collected in accordance with the applicable regulations on administrative enforcement. The district is currently divided into 20 sweeping districts.
