Online lecture: Left-wing extremism – current trends and developments
Extremism in all its forms poses a wide range of challenges for society and politics. In particular, since the power cut in Berlin that lasted several days in January 2026, the phenomenon of left-wing extremism has been the subject of public debate. Against this backdrop, the DEXT specialist centres in North Hesse are dedicating their next ‘North Hesse Democracy Dialogue’ to this topic.
Among other things, the lecture will explore what is meant by the term ‘left-wing extremism’. It will examine ideological positions, current developments and forms of action, the dynamics of radicalisation, key issues, as well as codes and symbolism within left-wing extremism.
The speaker, Nicholas Henkel, is a political scientist at the North Hesse Police Headquarters. The event is open to anyone interested from the city and district of Kassel, as well as the districts of Schwalm-Eder, Waldeck-Frankenberg and Werra-Meißner.
