THEATERWOCHE: "No one has the right to obey"

THEATERWOCHE: "No one has the right to obey"
An in-house production by pupils in grades 8 to 10 at the Edersee School in Herzhausen under the direction of Stephan Rumphorst and Karl-Heinz Stadtler.
The Vöhl Synagogue and the Edersee School in Herzhausen have joined forces to stage a play about the life of a Jew from Vöhl. Entitled "Nobody has the right to obey - Friends become enemies", the premiere took place in the Vöhl synagogue in February 2026. In four performances, around 400 people saw the play, which the pupils had developed together with director Stephan Rumphorst. Some contemporary witnesses - relatives and friends of the people portrayed - were also welcomed. All the historical facts are correct; the group and director have only taken a little leeway here and there to make the story flow more smoothly.
In the play, the Jew Max Mildenberg becomes Max Blumberg, who grows up in good neighbourly and friendly relations with the Protestant Klaus at the beginning of the 20th century. They play football together and sing in the men's choir. But then the National Socialists come to power and their friendship is put to the test.
The project was sponsored by the Förderkreis "Synagoge in Vöhl" e. V." and the Netzwerk für Toleranz Waldeck-Frankenberg.
