THEATERWOCHE: "seeking shelter"

Own production of poco*mania, theatre at the Marie-Curie-Gymnasium Neuss under the direction of Axel Mertens.

War? It's always been far away. Somewhere else. Not here. And it's actually still like that. But it has come closer, the war, and it is frightening. And not only that; it raises completely new questions: What will happen to me personally? Can the state dispose of me? If in doubt, will I have to go to war and fight? And if so, for what? Is there anything at all worth fighting and perhaps even dying for?

The still quite young players in the poco*manic ensemble asked themselves these and many other questions and brought their own expectations, fears and doubts to the stage in "seeking shelter". The result is a piece of theatre that is set in the future and shows how young people would experience an emergency, but which nevertheless focuses on the present in a highly topical way.

"seeking shelter" shows the sense of powerlessness, alienation and disorientation felt by many young people in the face of the current threat situation and thus becomes a portrait of the mood of a generation that has just realised that war doesn't always have to be hours away by plane and that war - when it comes - affects those who have previously thought of it the least.
