THEATRE WEEK: "Animal Farm"

THEATRE WEEK: "Animal Farm"
Based on G. Orwell's "Animal Farm" by the theatre group of the Edertalschule Frankenberg under the direction of Daniel Herbrich, Thorsten Jech and the support of Maja Schneider.
"Animal Farm" tells the story of the rebellion of English farm animals against their human and exploitative master, the farmer Jones, with the aim of creating a just society. The pigs - led by Napoleon and Snowball - take the lead. As a result, the power-hungry Napoleon drives out the idealistic Snowball, corrupts the revolution and establishes a brutal dictatorship. The revolutionary principle of the equality of all animals is changed to "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others".
In the second part of the production, the group explores in a documentary, biographical and partly satirical-grotesque way the question of what the increasingly perceptible worldwide authoritarian development is doing to democratic structures in the Federal Republic of Germany and what challenges the young people are confronted with. The Edertal School's theatre club is a voluntary school group of currently 21 pupils that takes place regularly on Tuesday afternoons and for which there are no grades. It is open to all interested pupils from Year 10 onwards. Students who leave the school can no longer actively participate. All the work required for a performance is designed or selected by the participants themselves: Costumes, masks, stage design, props, lighting technology, poster design, programme booklet, etc., whereby the group is actively supported by "alumni".
