It has always been clear to me that living in the city is out of the question. I grew up in the Hochsauerland district and have been very close to nature ever since. The decision to set up practice in Waldeck-Frankenberg was practically made for me when a colleague rang me about setting up a joint practice. I have now been working as a rural doctor for over 20 years and see this profession as my calling. I enjoy being there for my patients and look after them even when they’re facing personal problems or crises, because for me, medicine is a holistic approach. It is precisely this closeness to people and the relationship of trust that has developed over the years that, for me, are the aspects that define this profession.

Authenticity is particularly important to me
I have never regretted my career choice, as it gives me the opportunity to be authentic and to build good relationships with the people around me. I love the fact that I know the people I meet on the street and that I’m usually able to support them with their health over a long period of time. The positive feedback from patients gives me great pleasure and fills me with enthusiasm for my work. As such, working as a country doctor offers plenty of variety and presents me with new challenges every day. What I particularly appreciate is that I can involve my family in my working life. I can also plan my holidays flexibly. These factors are what make my job so special.
