From castle to museum: over the course of more than 900 years, Friedrichstein Castle in Bad Wildungen has undergone many changes. Today, it hosts impressive exhibitions: the Hessian Military History Collection features weapons, uniforms, medals and paintings from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Many of the objects were visually striking status symbols. The so-called ‘Turcica’ are also significant: these military artefacts from the Ottoman Empire were acquired by the Landgraves of Hesse-Kassel as spoils of war, as gifts or through purchase. The showpiece is a richly decorated audience tent. A new permanent exhibition showcases palace rooms in the Empire style. The exquisite furniture from the early 19th century comes from Wilhelmshöhe Palace and the Kassel Residential Palace on Friedrichsplatz. It is complemented by clothing, ceramics and paintings.
