    Landscape protection includes all measures for the special protection and care of nature and landscape of a specific area.

    The objectives are to preserve, develop or restore the

    • Performance and functionality of the natural balance,
    • regenerative capacity and sustainable use of natural assets,
    • diversity, uniqueness or beauty of the landscape,
    • special cultural-historical significance of the landscape,
    • particular importance for recreation.

    In order to protect landscapes, certain parts can be declared landscape protection areas. In these landscape protection areas, all actions are prohibited that change the character of the area, impair the landscape or the performance and functionality of the natural balance or run counter to the special purpose of protection.

    Landscape protection areas are designated in order to preserve or restore the area character typical of natural areas and also to secure it for use by future generations.

Who do I need to contact?

The higher nature conservation authorities are responsible for designating landscape protection areas. The contact persons for citizens are the lower nature conservation authorities at the district administrations or the magistrates of the independent cities.
