People from third countries who wish to enter or stay in Germany usually need a visa or a residence title. When applying for a visa or a residence title, they must prove that they are able to support themselves while in Germany.
People from third countries are people from countries that do not belong to the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland.
If you invite people from third countries to Germany and want to enable them to enter or stay in Germany, you can undertake to bear the costs of living for the invited person or persons. In addition to food, housing and clothing, subsistence also includes care in case of illness and need for long-term care. The obligation to pay also includes the assumption of any costs of repatriation to the home country. Before you submit the declaration of commitment, you must describe your own economic situation and prove your ability to pay.
The declaration of commitment enables third-country nationals to prove that they fulfil the economic requirements for the issuance of a residence title or a Schengen visa.
Natural or legal persons (e.g. companies, charitable associations) can submit a declaration of commitment.

Who do I need to contact?
You must submit the declaration of commitment to the foreigners authority or the diplomatic mission abroad.
The online application is only for declarations of commitment for a longer-term stay (training, studies...). Declarations of commitment for visit visas are issued by the respective municipality of residence and must therefore be applied for there.
