Performance specification
Full-time foster care means that your child lives in another family and is looked after there. Legal guardians are entitled to educational assistance if the child's welfare cannot be guaranteed and the assistance is suitable and necessary for the child's development. Which foster family your child lives with and for how long depends on the following, for example
- Age of the child
- Developmental stage of your child
- Attachment of your child
- Possibilities of improving the upbringing conditions at your home
The foster parents are selected by the Youth Welfare Office together with you.
Only suitable people can become foster parents and take your child into their care.
Relatives (e.g. grandparents) can also be foster parents.
Full-time foster care can be temporary or permanent. It is a type of child-raising assistance. It can also apply to young adults.Legal basis
