Apply for an electronic residence permit (eAT)
Performance specification
As of 01.09.2011 you will receive the residence permit in the form of a cheque card with additional electronic functions. Infants and children will also receive their own card. The eAT has a contactless chip inside the card. It stores
- biometric features (photo, from 6 years 2 fingerprints),
- ancillary provisions in connection with the residence title (e.g. conditions) and
- personal data.
The eAT includes the following residence titles:
- Residence permit
- Settlement permit
- Permit for permanent residence-EU
- Residence card for third-country nationals who are family members of EU or EEA nationals
- Permanent residence card for third-country nationals who are family members of EU or EEA nationals
- Residence permit for Swiss nationals and their family members from third countries if they opt for an eAT
Process flow
You can use the electronic residence permit in the same way as the new identity card for German nationals. You can find detailed information on the electronic use of the card on the website of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.
You must apply for the electronic residence title in person at the competent office. She will take your fingerprints on the spot. Children from the age of 6 must also submit their fingerprints.
Requirements
The residence permit must be valid for at least one month.
