Pupil cycle route planner

The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is committed to safe mobility to and from school. A transport planning office commissioned by the ivm therefore developed a network of school cycle routes for the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg in 2022 together with pupils from secondary schools, parents, police and local authorities. The results can be found online in the pupil cycle route planner.

With the help of a widget, the directions by bike can also be integrated on the school homepage. The school cycling route network is a network of cycling routes geared towards routes to school, which includes particularly quality-assured routes between residential areas and secondary schools. The routes have been designated on the existing cycle infrastructure. Attention points indicating special traffic situations are also displayed and described. All of this can be displayed to pupils on the computer or via app with the help of the pupil cycle route planner. More than 430 secondary schools in Hesse are already connected to the pupil cycle route network. This increases the attractiveness of cycling and creates an alternative to the parents' taxi.

The development of school cycling route networks is a central component of the advisory programme "Better to School". This free programme is offered by the Centre of Expertise for School Mobility Management, which the state of Hesse launched in 2018 as part of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Nahmobilität Hessen (AGNH) to promote independent and safe mobility for schoolchildren. The centre of expertise - established at ivm - supports Hessian schools, school authorities and municipalities in implementing measures for school mobility management.
