Cycle path signposting concept
Cycle path signposting concept
Since 2022, the district has been working flat out to improve the cycling network in our region. The aim is to make everyday cycling safer and more attractive. To this end, existing cycle paths are being renovated and expanded, obstacles removed and gaps closed. Another important focus is on optimising cycle route signposting to provide cyclists with better orientation.
Current challenge: Outdated signposting
The existing signposting is currently inadequate in many places. In some cases, it does not correspond to the current specifications, is outdated or incomplete. For this reason, cycle route signposting is being revised throughout the district. The district has received funding totalling around 124,000 euros for the implementation of this project, which comes from the state's local mobility guidelines. In addition, the district is making its own contribution of around 42,000 euros.
Introduction of a junction system
The district is planning to be one of the first in the region to introduce a junction system. This system will enable cyclists to easily get from one point to another using numbers and at the same time receive tourist information on information boards. Digital route planning can be conveniently carried out using the nationwide cycle route planner.
Broad involvement of expertise and communities
The involvement of local expertise is crucial in the development of the new signposting system. A steering group consisting of representatives from the cities and municipalities as well as other stakeholders is supporting the project. This participatory approach ensures that the new system is user-friendly and tailored to the needs of users.
Future steps and timetable
The preliminary planning work is currently being carried out and is expected to be completed by spring 2026. This will be followed by financial planning for the construction phase. A further funding application will also be submitted for the construction phase, which could start as early as the following year.
