Carolus-Magnus-Gymnasium Marsberg becomes a Geopark School

The GrenzWelten National Geopark has awarded the Carolus-Magnus-Gymnasium in Marsberg the ‘Geopark School’ certificate. Representatives from the school and the geopark met to sign the cooperation agreement.

The grammar school and the Geopark are delighted to be continuing their successful collaboration as official partners. The school makes use of the Geopark’s ESD programmes, in particular the ESD module ‘The Earth in Motion’ for Year 5 pupils, which introduces pupils to various topics relating to the Earth and its history in a playful way. This programme is complemented by project days and field trips for different year groups around Marsberg, led by local Geopark guides. Contact persons have been appointed by both parties, and there is also collaboration on public relations activities.

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) – an international UNESCO educational campaign aimed at empowering people to think and act in a sustainable manner and enabling each individual to understand the impact of their own actions on the world – is a key focus of the programmes offered by both partners. The Carolus-Magnus-Gymnasium takes part in North Rhine-Westphalia’s ESD state programme ‘School of the Future’, in which the GrenzWelten Geopark is a registered educational partner.

The ESD programmes offered by GrenzWelten can be booked by all schools in the Geopark and are free of charge. The Geopark is also an educational partner for the ESD diploma ‘Clever macht Zukunft’, which is offered by the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. Further information can be found here.
