CITY CYCLING in the district: another impressive result
In 2026, too, the results of the STADTRADELN campaign in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district were once again extremely positive: over 561,000 kilometres were cycled across the 21 towns and parishes over a three-week period. In doing so, the 2,376 cyclists in 218 teams achieved a CO₂ saving of an impressive 92 tonnes.
The district would like to thank all participants for taking part and congratulates the successful cyclists who covered the most kilometres in the various categories. In the ranking of local authorities, the town of Frankenberg – named after Philipp Soldan – takes first place with 90,170 km, making it the most cycling-active local authority in the 10,000–49,999 population bracket. With 58,958 km, the municipality of Edertal takes this spot in the category for populations under 10,000. The town of Volkmarsen, as the ‘most cycling-active town/local council’, covered the most kilometres per capita (20.3).
The largest cycling team was the Bad Wildungen Volunteer Fire Brigade, with 59 members. The most active cycling team (in terms of total kilometres) in 2026 was TSV Eifa 1921 e. V., with 18,866 km; the three teams with the most active cyclists (highest average kilometres per person) are ‘Die Hartmänner’ (1,681 km per person), ‘Die Pedal-Pfoten’ (925 km per person) and ‘Die Neuen’ (884 km per person). In the ‘Most Active Cyclists’ category (total kilometres in the individual classification), the top three places were taken by 79-year-old Fritz Emde, Offenes Team Bad Arolsen (2,712 km) – Joachim Siedler, Open Team Waldeck (2,687 km) – Olaf Achterberg, Team Mandern (2,665 km).
The STADTRADELN participants from Waldeck-Frankenberg have nothing to fear in a comparison across the whole of Hesse either. Volkmarsen takes first place in Hesse for the number of local councillors who took part (in towns with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants) and fourth place for kilometres cycled per local councillor (in towns with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants), whilst Edertal ranks fourth in terms of total kilometres cycled (for towns with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants). The district also ranks fourth in terms of kilometres cycled per parliamentary member (for towns with 100,000–499,999 inhabitants) and even third place for the number of MPs who cycled along (100,000–499,999 inhabitants). The Christian-Rauch-Schule in Bad Arolsen has also achieved a remarkable success: out of the 349 schools that took part in the School Cycling Challenge, it came twelfth in the ‘Total Kilometres’ category.
The results show one thing above all else – enthusiasm for the STADTRADELN campaign remains as strong as ever in Waldeck-Frankenberg, and climate protection and sustainable mobility in everyday life are matters close to people’s hearts. As was the case last year, the district is thus once again underlining its ambition to play a pioneering role in the field of environmentally friendly mobility in Hesse.
