Climate action from an early age: Introducing the ‘Blue Pearl’ boxes

How can we instil an understanding of climate change and sustainability in even the youngest children? What role does education play in shaping the future? And how can we convey this to even the youngest children? This is the focus of an event organised by the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in collaboration with the Klimaneutrales Waldeck-Frankenberg association on 28 September.

: a keynote address by a prominent figure The physicist Cecilia Scorza from Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) in Munich was invited to be the evening’s keynote speaker. In her keynote address, she highlights the crucial role of education in shaping the future and demonstrates how scientific findings on climate protection can be communicated in a way that is appropriate for different age groups.

Innovative learning kits from ‘
’ A practical highlight of the evening is the official handover of the ‘Blue Pearl’ kits. The Klimaneutrales Waldeck-Frankenberg e. V. association has purchased a total of 44 of these teaching and learning boxes to donate to primary and special needs schools in the district. The boxes are based on a well-founded educational concept and contain a wide range of teaching materials designed to help teachers integrate the topic of climate change into everyday school life in a vivid and engaging way. To complement this donation, interested teachers from the district will receive intensive training over two days on how to use the boxes.

Environmental and climate awareness
The aim is to start as early as possible in the field of sustainable education – and to foster an awareness of environmental and climate issues in children from a young age. Nevertheless, the event is open to anyone interested and offers participants the opportunity to learn about existing regional networks and initiatives that actively support and promote climate protection at a local level.

The event will take place on Monday, 28 September from 6.00 pm in the conference room of the Korbach District Office at Südring 2. Admission is free and no prior registration is required. The district’s Schools and Education Department and the Klimaneutrales Waldeck-Frankenberg association cordially invite you to the event.
