Emergency medical care in Bad Arolsen secured for the long term

Emergency medical care in Bad Arolsen is secured for the long term. The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg, together with Waldeck-Frankenberg Hospital, the German Red Cross (DRK) and the Institute for Emergency Medicine, has devised a sustainable solution for the emergency medical service base in the royal seat. A corresponding agreement guarantees provision beyond 2026 and strengthens the healthcare infrastructure in Bad Arolsen and the surrounding area.
Tried-and-tested staff and structures guarantee continuity
At the heart of the new agreement between the district authority and the Waldeck-Frankenberg Hospital (KWF), which has now been officially signed at the German Red Cross (DRK) ambulance station in Bad Arolsen, is the long-term safeguarding of the emergency doctor base. In future, the emergency doctors will be provided on a weekly rotation basis by the KWF and from a pool of doctors at the Institute for Emergency Medicine (INM) in Arnsberg. Where possible, the emergency doctors who have already worked for Arolsen Hospital will be deployed.
Based at the DRK building on Hünighäuser Weg, they work 24-hour shifts. The emergency doctor’s vehicle will also remain stationed in Bad Arolsen. Nothing will therefore change for patients: care will remain at the usual high standard, as ambulances and the emergency doctor’s vehicle will continue to travel together to the scene of the emergency. First Deputy District Administrator Karl-Friedrich Frese emphasises: “We are ensuring that an emergency doctor’s vehicle will continue to be stationed in Bad Arolsen in future and will be staffed round the clock by qualified emergency doctors. Together with the German Red Cross (DRK), Waldeck-Frankenberg Hospital and the Institute for Emergency Medicine in Arnsberg, we are creating a reliable structure that provides reassurance to the people of Nordwaldeck.”

Anne Bülling and Sassan Pur, the managing directors of Waldeck-Frankenberg Hospital, emphasise the importance of this collaboration, particularly with the new partner from Arnsberg: “With the INM in Arnsberg, we have a strong partner at our side that has been providing experienced emergency doctors in numerous regions for many years. By combining our medical team with the institute’s extensive pool of emergency doctors, we can ensure that the emergency medical service in Bad Arolsen is staffed on a long-term basis with a broad, high-quality workforce. This reliable partnership is a key element in ensuring that emergency care in the district is fit for the future.”
A clear commitment to regional healthcare provision
Safeguarding the emergency medical services base is a key component of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district’s strategy to ensure comprehensive, high-quality healthcare provision. The agreement that has now been reached is a clear commitment to strengthening the medical infrastructure in the Bad Arolsen region. To finalise the funding, discussions will be held with the funding bodies as the next step.
