Many construction plans lie on a table

Preventive fire protection

Preventive fire protection

Preventive fire protection coordinates all preventive fire protection measures and represents the link between purely structural concerns and defensive fire protection. Within planning and approval procedures, the main task is to evaluate preventive constructional, plant engineering and/or operational measures to avoid the spread of fire and smoke in buildings as well as the possibilities of the fire brigade to effectively fight fires and rescue people, and, if necessary, to forward requirements or suggestions to the relevant approval authorities, which then have to make a final decision on the matter.

The following areas of responsibility are among the typical fire protection measures:

  • Preparation of technical fire protection opinions as well as advice and support in building permit procedures and procedures in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act (Bundesimmisionsschutzgesetz)
  • Advice to specialist engineers, building owners, architects and private individuals on all questions of structural, plant and organisational fire protection
  • Consultation and comments on urban land use planning of cities and municipalities

The hazard prevention inspection represents a recurring inspection of existing buildings, for example in schools, kindergartens, places of assembly or facilities and installations, and serves to determine whether the structural installations meet the requirements with regard to the safety of the users of the structures, their self-rescue in the event of fire and the requirements for the performance of rescue work and fire fighting by the fire brigade.
