Domestic waste water, precipitation water
Performance specification
- According to § 55 of the Federal Water Act (Wasserhaushaltsgesetz), precipitation water is to be infiltrated close to the site or discharged directly into a body of water via a sewer system without being mixed with wastewater, provided that neither water legislation nor other public regulations nor water management concerns prevent this.
- Waste water is to be treated in biological waste water treatment plants according to the state of the art.
Within the local area, the waste water is fed to the waste water treatment plant via house connection pipes and the public sewer system. The wastewater treated in the treatment plant is then discharged into a body of water. Whether the Upper Water Authority at the Kassel Regional Council or the Lower Water Authority at the District Committee is responsible depends on the size of the municipal sewage treatment plants. The lower water authority can provide information on this.
In the case of outdoor properties that cannot be connected to a municipal sewer system, the wastewater can be fed to a body of water or infiltrated after biological treatment in small wastewater treatment plants. The municipality disposes of the resulting sewage sludge. Furthermore, it is possible to collect the wastewater in a collection tank and have it disposed of by the responsible municipality. Which wastewater disposal is permissible on the respective outdoor property must be clarified with the lower water authority.
The purification performance of the wastewater treatment plants is monitored by the competent water authority.
Legal basis
Who do I need to contact?
The infiltration or discharge of wastewater from sewage treatment plants, small sewage treatment plants and collected precipitation water directly into a surface water body generally requires a permit under water law.
Further information can be obtained from the lower water authority.
If necessary, a connection to the municipal sewage system is required due to the municipal bylaws. In these cases, the city or municipal administration must be contacted.
