Two cyclists from behind on a dirt road in a deciduous forest

About the project

About the project

Take an e-bike to work, explore the district on two wheels or go shopping by bike: Not only since the Corona pandemic has cycling enjoyed a new popularity - also in Waldeck-Frankenberg. The district therefore wants to improve the cycle path network even further.

On short (cycle) routes from A to B

In order to secure the quality of living and life in the district, sustainable mobility is imperative. The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg therefore wants to adapt the cycle path network even better to the needs of the people. The "Grenztrail" is to be clearly distinguished from this project. This project is aimed more at tourists, whereas the focus of the cycling concept is more on getting from A to B by bike on short routes. Of course, the routes will still lead through scenic areas. However, everyday mobility is the main focus here.

The aim is to connect already existing cycle paths in the cities and municipalities into a network that is as complete as possible - and thus to sensibly supplement the already existing cycle path concepts of the individual municipalities.

Another component of the cycling concept is a short employer report on the topic of "bicycle-friendly employers". Here, 10 numerically large employers in the district were assessed by the expert office and recommendations were made. In addition, the bike & ride locations in the district were recorded and evaluated. Another component of the cycling concept is the "special traffic concept for Lake Edersee". In this spatial sub-concept, the focus is on the interests of the environmental alliance, and proposals for measures were developed to strengthen it.

Citizen participation

The concept was developed in a broad participation process.

The project was supported by a steering group consisting of representatives from the construction department, the police, Hessen Mobil, local authorities, public transport and TSWE GmbH.

The project was presented to the public in detail during two digital citizen information events on 12 March and 27 August 2021. Citizens had the opportunity to enter suggestions and comments in an interactive map until 19 September 2021. In addition, there was also the possibility to contribute in writing or by telephone. These suggestions for measures were professionally evaluated and further processed by the commissioned planning office.

The measures were also intensively discussed and fed back with the municipalities.
